Abstract Aim To investigate and improve doctors’ knowledge of fasting requirements for surgical patients undergoing imaging. Introduction Surgical require prompt radiological imaging to confirm diagnoses rapidly initiate management. Fasting regimes prior different techniques are confusing poorly understood but essential prime image quality. Poor these delays scans leads suboptimal patient-care. Methods We created a series MCQs determine confidence regimes. Our target recipients were junior doctors who frequently requested (n = 27). Modalities included: x-rays, ultrasounds, CTs, MRCPs, ERCPS. A questionnaire was then circulated re-assess understanding. Results The mean pre-intervention MCQ score only 49%, 8% confident in ordering After our intervention, average mark improved by 37% (+/-11%, 95%CI) proportion doctors, felt confident, increased 92%. Improvement understanding seen all modalities, most significantly ERCPs contrast CT-APs. Wilcoxon signed rank test showed statistically significant improvement marks after intervention (p < 0.001).
